A housing development proposal is stirring up controversy in Augusta County. The Board of Supervisors are schedule to vote later this week on a $4 million project that hopes to bring hundreds of new homes to the Fishersville area. Some supervisors have multiple concerns about the project. Vice Chair of the Board, Tracy Pyles, Jr., is concerned primarily with taxes. He says he doesn't think the project is an appropriate use of tax-payer money. Pyles says roads purchased by developers for the project have not been approved by state code. He says the developers are setting the tax liability and it may be flawed. He says there's padding in the calculations of numbers. . Pyles says developers plan on using those taxes to pay for the new roads. He fears it will wind up that the developer will not have to pay any money and it will all come out of tax money. He also says, besides taxes, the new road project will add traffic to some of the most congested parts of the area. According to Pyles, the number of homes in the proposed project will exceed the number projected in Fishersville's Small Area Plan, putting it nearly 20 years ahead of schedule.
