So, have you had the opportunity to drive through Harrisonburg's first roundabout? It opened yesterday. A ribbon cutting ceremony celebrated the opening of Linda Lane, which will connect Country Club Road to Smithland Road. The extension gives easy access to the city's new Skyline Middle and Smithland Elementary schools. The roundabout serves as an alternative to traditional traffic signals. Since there are no stop signs or traffic lights, drivers will have to yield to intersecting traffic. Public Works director Jim Baker says roundabouts are safe and efficient. There is a 15 mile per hour speed limit at the roundabout, but city officials say driving slow in it is necessary.
