Wayne Theatre Work to Start

The multi-million dollar make-over of Waynesboro's Wayne Theatre is set to start after years of planning, designing, fund raising and approvals. Yesterday, a hard hat tour opened the old theatre to the community. The first phase of construction will start along Main Street. The marquee is already gone. In a matter of months the façade will relive its vaudeville days as it did in 1926. Construction crews will restore the Wayne's façade in a $7 million make-over. NBC29 reports full-length stained glass windows, a digital marquee, and lanterns will light the theatre three months from now. From there, construction will continue inside to restore the theatre's historic features. The Wayne Theatre Alliance fundraisers say they can hardly believe the quick community support: $2.1 million in donations in less than a year of capital campaigning.
